Carrielynn Xwémentélot Victor ====>>:. is of mixed ancestry, she identifies as Stó:lō (Stah-low), her traditional name is Xwémentélot, and her birthplace is Chilliwack BC the traditional territory of the up-river Halq’eméylem speaking peoples who are indigenous to the Fraser Valley. Carrielynn currently lives in her home community of Cheam (Chee-yom) where she is employed as a researcher within the Rights and Title department of the Stó:lō Tribal Council.
Following the gifted and determined artists who came before her, bringing about the revitalization of Coast Salish design, Carrielynn has learned the fine art of bringing her spirited visions to reality. She creates to satisfy that spirit. It is in the moments of the creation process that Carrielynn feels most complete, following her hands and heart towards the manifestation of her visions and dreams. She currently works in mediums such as, acrylic paints on various surfaces, woven wool and cedar, as well as writing, producing and performing her own music in the genres of hiphop and blues/soul.
Carrielynn is an artist to watch for now and in the future.
Environmental management and protection are at the forefront of Carrielynn’s work, stemming from the nature of these issues and the increasing encroachment of urbanization in the territories, are the inspired creations of this emerging artist.
